Introducing the Donegal Bay Ladies…Clare Dillon, Deirdre Dillon, Linda McHugh and Mary Rice
Clare cycles with Ballinasloe Cycling Club and has taken part in many sportives with Beara being her favourite. In 2017 she cycled in the Dolomites so she’s eager to compare the Hills of Donegal with them.
Her sister Deirdre enjoys running and cycling but the running has been pushed on the back foot in preparation for 555. She was part of a mixed team in last year’s 555 along with her son Luke and still doesn’t know how she got roped into doing it again!!!!
Linda has been a member of Donegal Bay CC since it started in 2012 and has combined sportives and touring trips on the bike very well. You could find herself and husband Greg anywhere with the luggage on the bikes. In fact Greg and Linda’s brother Roger are also doing the 333 and the 5 th of August is her 26th wedding anniversary. Linda has used the club TTs to improve her speed so she’ll be one to watch on the open stretches!!
Mary was the one who had the brainwave about doing the 555…. so when we’re trudging up Glengesh in the middle of the night it’s her we’ll be thanking!!! Mary enjoyed adventure racing until a dodgy knee forced her out and cycling became her new interest. Mary loves sportives especially the wide open expanse of Connemara. She has also taken part in 555 in 2018 as part of an 8 all female team and LOVED it so much she had to do it again.
So there you have it… the Donegal Bay Ladies are keen to get started and out on the road. They would like to thank the Donegal Bay CC for its support and encouragement in preparation for the event. Also members of Ballinasloe CC who came on board with drivers and bike gear.
Stay safe everyone and enjoy the event.
